For the month of June, we had the opportunity to sit down and get to know our Director of Digital Marketing, Robert Lyman. Keep reading to learn more about Robert’s and his role at the agency.
1. What is a typical day in the life of Robert?
Typical is not a word I am familiar with. I chose to pursue digital specifically for the diversity of opportunities I experience each day. I enjoy the complexity of the digital marketing ecosystem and look forward to seeing what each new opportunity brings. The most typical part of my day is the morning walk to the kitchen to get a cold Mountain Dew from the refrigerator.
2. How did you choose this career path?
I started as a developer many years ago doing desktop application development for a few early Windows-based products. When the Internet was finally invented by Al Gore I took a chance and put all my eggs in that basket. Unlike many, I thought it had a future and would be around for at least a few years. My career tracked the evolution of digital as a viable marketing environment from AOL and CompuServe to where we are today.
3. What drew you to Elevation Marketing?
Smart, seasoned people. I was very impressed with the interview process and the company culture of professionalism mixed with creativity and entrepreneurial thinking was apparent. I have continued to be impressed as I have spent time with the Elevation team focusing on our client’s marketing and communications opportunities.
4. What would people never guess you do in your role?
I think the one area that most people don’t realize is a huge part of digital marketing is the amount of data analysis that is required. Data is generated from every tool and platform we use. From Google Analytics to Sprout Social Insights, we use data to help inform the strategies we recommend to our clients and manage our existing campaigns. It has become such a large part of my job that I am currently pursuing a MS in Analytics from Georgia Tech through the Coursea online platform.
5. In your mind, what sets Elevation apart from other agencies?
Elevation is 100% focused on B2B. This allows us to focus all our efforts on refining and optimizing our B2B marketing strategy. The past year has been a catalyst for many businesses to rapidly advance their marketing efforts with tools, technologies and tactics that were not on the roadmap before the changes required due to the COVID pandemic. Elevation is uniquely positioned to help our businesses excel in a rapidly advancing digital B2B world.
6. Tell us something we may not know about you.
I disliked running until I lived in Idaho for a few years and mapped out hundreds of miles of running trails and snowshoeing trails. I am now doing the same in the Phoenix… minus the snowshoeing!
7. What’s your favorite thing to do in Phoenix?
Other than getting out and exploring the Phoenix area trails, I have been learning about the variety of native cactus in Arizona; saguaro, organ pipe, ocotillo, etc. My goal is to get a “cactus rig” to help rescue and relocate cacti due to construction, in my free time!
