Employee Spotlight Series – Meet Our Sr. Art Director, Diana Bergquist!

This month, we are featuring our incredible Sr. Art Director, Diana Bergquist! Read below to learn more about Diana and her role at Elevation.

1. What is a typical day in your life?

I’m woken up by my two dogs, a boxer and a shih-tzu. After feeding them I make sure my household is ready for the day. I’m thankful for my morning walks with my dogs to clear my head, and I finish my mornings with 10-15 min of yoga stretching (yes, my dogs wait for opportunities to lick my face).

Each day in the life of an art director is different, so I could be developing logo ideas, reviewing a new project scope, proofing ads, creating visuals for a new campaign, or helping our team with production related tasks. 9-10 hour days at work are typical, but I live close to work, so I can pop home for lunch and let my dogs out. My two sons keep me on my toes – one plays golf and is an awesome chef and my other is an apprentice electrician who loves art and vintage fashion. My husband works close to home too, so we all have dinner together and wrap up the day with a good documentary or visiting with friends. It’s not uncommon for people to pop over for a visit – our garage is always open.

2. How did you choose this career path?

I began drawing horses at a young age and my mom was an artist who could draw anything, so I knew I wanted to do something creative. In high school I took marketing and art classes and this is where I found a way to mix my passion for research, strategy and visual communications. Being a curious person I knew a marketing path was for me. I actually got my BS in Marketing and a minor in Advertising Design in the amazing city of San Francisco.

3. What drew you to Elevation Marketing?

The team at Elevation is about the strategy and research that goes into creating and bringing a product to the consumer. I love the strategy and answering the why, and I had worked with Darren Jones, our Creative Director, earlier in my career. He’s an amazing person to learn from on the creative team.

4. What would people never guess you do in your role?

Lots of reading content and proofing! I can’t say that people wouldn’t guess that, but as a designer, the content is just as important as the design. I have always been good at taking content and presenting it in a way that makes flows visually.

5. In your mind, what sets Elevation apart from other agencies?

No egos. I’ve worked with so many different types of organizations in my 25+ years and the culture at Elevation is one of camaraderie.

6. Tell us something we may not know about you?

My love for food and cooking with my family is what makes me smile. We try new recipes and both my boys and my husband cook. Family dinners happen 5-6x a week – sometimes at 8 pm. Working and raising kids is tough, so everyone pitching in makes it possible and we can share about our days while enjoying good food. My sons even go grocery shopping with me at farmers markets or international grocery stores. I make an awesome Indian butter chicken.

7. What’s your favorite thing to do in Phoenix?

Spending time outside exploring or hanging out with animals (I volunteer at a horse rescue when I can) and investigating the state I call home. Arizona is a beautiful place filled with people from all over the world and it won’t take long to realize I will talk to anyone – I love hearing a person’s story.
