Q&A with Graphic Designer, Carlos Rojas.
This month’s spotlight shines on Graphic Designer, Carlos Rojas. Get to know more about him and his role at Elevation below!
What do you do in your role at Elevation?
I’m a graphic designer, and my job is to develop the overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, digitals banners, magazines, corporate reports, illustrations, and motion graphic videos.
Tell us about a typical day in the life of Carlos.
I usually start my day with a Cuban espresso coffee. It’s an essential part of my morning. On the weekdays, before going to work, I always read or watch the news, and browse something related to design. It is important to stay up to date on the events of the country and the world.
On my way to work, I turn my podcast or audiobook on, with that, which makes my commute very pleasant. After work, I exercise and take a long walk alongside my wife around the neighborhood. I don’t like wasting my time, so I try to study every night either about design or another subject I’m interested in.
On the weekends I try to do something fun such as go dancing, or to the movie theater; sometimes I play sports or enjoy the beautiful landscape of Arizona.
Where did your interest in graphic design stem from?
My passion for design started when I was a child. I come from a family where there were many designers and artists. Surrounded by these people, I developed an interest in design. At that time, I was always sketching and designing logos, especially for baseball teams. I was really interested in that. Years later, when I discovered the existence of design as a career, I immediately knew that this was what I wanted to study and practice in my future.
What inspires your designs?
Each element, object, nature, even the most abstract concepts are sources of inspiration for me. Knowing different cultures, as well as current and past visual trends, plays an important role. I’m always in the insatiable quest to expand my visual culture. I am a very observant person and I believe that at the least expected time and places, I could find something marvelous that can be applied to my designs.
What’s your favorite part about graphic designing in an agency environment?
My favorite part is that every day is something new and different and the flow is very dynamic. Additionally, being in a multidisciplinary team, I am acquiring new tools and strengthening the skills that help me grow as a professional on a daily basis.
What have you gained from working at Elevation?
Elevation has given me the opportunity to become a better professional. Working alongside this group of wonderful and talented people has made this experience truly unique. For me, it’s like a family. It is a tremendous pleasure to come here to work every day.
